Pastor James H. Nixon received his calling from God and he often emphasizes during his sermons of how a turning
point began in his life when he received the gift of salvation on
March 17, 1976. For the past thirty years, God has continued to
elevate the ministry of Pastor James H. Nixon. He is truly an "Anointed" and "Humble" man of God who displays an attitude of gratitude reflects the character of Christ in his everyday living and service. A native of
Hampstead, North Carolina, he is married to First Lady Catherine Nixon.
Pastor Nixon is a graduate of Shaw University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Pre-Theology. He is dedicated to God's Word, seeks divine guidance, listens and understands the needs of his members and community.
As Senior Pastor of Union Missionary Baptist Church in Wilmington, North Carolina he has been sustained by God for thirty-two years. God has anointed Pastor Nixon with the gift of leadership and the presence of the Holy Spirit in his life has drawn many souls to Christ. Under his leadership more than 40 men and women have received their calling into the ministry. Pastor Nixon is greatly appreciated, supported and loved by all those whose lives have been touched and inspired through his preaching and teaching.
With a spirit of faith and love, Pastor Nixon faces each day, each situation firmly believing that with God’s help, he can accomplish all that God would have him do. Pastor Nixon often states: “I will bless the Lord at all time; His praise shall continually be in my mouth” (Psalm 34:1).
As the President of Union's Sisterhood Ministry and Coordinator of the Afterschool and Summer Camp Program, First Lady Catherine Nixon in her own right lovingly devotes her time and talents. Laboring alongside her husband as a highly gifted and anointed soloist, she magnificently glorifies God in song. First Lady's testimony of their life together is that they have been "Blessed, Better than Blessed" by God in so many ways. They are the proud parents of five adult children and thirteen grandchildren.
